France has long been hailed as one of the leaders of art exhibitions in the world. Some major installations have recently launched in Paris and Versailles and our local expert in the region, Metropolis, a Hosts Global member, shares some of the content and information for these amazing art exhibits.
Egon Schiele and Jean-Michel Basquiat at Foundation Louis Vuitton, Paris
The current exhibition at the Louis Vuitton Foundation (Froom October 3, 2018 to January 14, 2019) compares two of the most complex artistic personalities of the twentieth century: Egon Schiele (1890 – 1918) and Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960 – 1988).
Despite their profound differences – Basquiat’s underground culture, his skulls, almost demon-like characters, his bright colors that alternate with dark shades and Schiele’s knobby bodies in unnatural and deformed positions. The original exhibition brings together some 100 works – drawings, gouaches and paintings.
Hiroshi Sugimoto at the Palace of Versailles
The Palace of Versailles welcomes Hiroshi Sugimoto for its new contemporary exhibition, taking place from October 16, 2018 to January 20, 2019. A multi-disciplinary artist, Sugimoto who works in black and white photography, sculpture, installation and architecture will be the first ever photographer to settle in Versailles.
Cubism (1907-1917) through a comprehensive overview at Centre Pompidou
This exhibition is an original blend between two cultures and an
impressive crossing of one of the founding movements in the history of modern art: Cubism from October 17, 2018 to February 25, 2019. Approximately 300 pieces by Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Andre Derain, Henri Laurens, Robert Delaunay, Fernand Léger, Francis Picabia, to Marcel Duchamp will be presented in a chronological itinerary.
These pieces highlight the wealth, the inventiveness and the proliferation of cubism which is not limited solely to the geometrization of forms and the rejection of classical representation, but the radical research of which, added to the creative energy of its members, are at the source of contemporary art.
